So errr, interesting news here...

I got hit by a car on Saturday. How weird is that?

Considering that I'm typing this...I'm obviously alive and not crippled or in a coma in the hospital. So don't worry.

Only sucks that I have huge bruises on my legs and a small hairline crack on my pinky on the left-hand so I have a swollen finger and a splint to make sure my finger doesn't move too much.

So I kind of feel like I'm missing one hand...so it kinda gives me a feeling of what it would be like to be an amputee, not that I'm proclaiming that I know exactly what it feels like or anything. But yeah, I'm so thankful I'm alive and I have both my hands .

:)

P/S. People who can't drive...please don't. Seriously. People get hurt when you don't know what you're doing.

So err, yeah I'm a major flaker-outer (if such a word exists, if not...I just created it for my own usage) and I'm sure it's been well established.

Here I sit sipping my Starbucks' Cinnamon Dolce Latte which I L-O-V-E especially during cold winter nights such as this. My second dose of caffeine today, well I had tea earlier so that doesn't really count? Not in my books anyways, but who's keeping track?

I don't believe I have much to report really. Sorry. Wait, why am I apologizing for my own un-eventful life?
Stop
, Stephanie. Stop.

*Goes through mental checklist*
....

It's still winter.
It's still cold.
I'm still me.
I'm still in university (last I checked).
I still can't figure out heads or tails of most things in life.
No recent moments of brilliance/clarity or epiphanies.

Yes, that about sums it up.

More tunes to share round because well, that's about all I can talk about really.

Yes, I know I need a life.
And no, we don't need to go over that again.
I get it.
I just can't do anything about it.

Ray LaMontagne. I love, love, love him. It's THREE loves, okay people. It's BIG TIME love.
Favourites: Crazy, Be Here Now, Trouble, Hold You In My Arms (emo, emo song for emo, emo people or people who are just having random bouts of emo-ness).

K's Choice. Belgian 90's rock band. Interesting isn't it? I thought it was anyways.
Song I know of so far and love: Not An Addict, Butterflies Instead.

Rooney.
I'm suspecting most people know about them and probably have huge crushes on their cutesy-rock sound with a tinge of The Beatles' essence but I'll just plug them anyways.
Testrun these few: When Did Your Heart Go Missing?, I'm Shakin', I Should Have Been After You.

Across The Universe Soundtrack. I'm sure tonnes of people would say the original Beatles versions are a bazillion times better but I say they do a decent cover. In fact, after seeing the movie it'll probably appeal a whole lot more. On a side note: Go WATCH the movie. It's fabulous. The director is genius. Sheer visionary genius. Plus the random celebrity cameos are super funny.

Johnny Lang. Grammy award winner who has an awesome voice and isn't half bad looking either, which is always a plus in my books. I think most people describe him as a blues artist. Recommendations: Lie To Me, Give Me Up Again, Dying To Live, Breakin' Me. You know what, just get everything. So far everything I've randomly downloaded has been a keepsake ;)

Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová's Academy Award winning song: Falling Slowly. Beautiful, beautiful song. I love the instrumentals. It reminds me of Damien Rice and Lisa Hannigan a little. The indie film it's from, Once is supposed to quite interesting. Am dying to watch it, planning to once my schedule frees up.

Rilo Kiley. Indie rock band from Los Angeles. The lead female singer's voice is fabulous and their beats are cutesy catchy but not in a tacky way.
Listen to: Silver Lining, Breakin' Up, The Moneymaker, Glendora. Most tunes from their latest album Under The Blacklight are rather good in my opinion.

Umm, I think that about sums it up. Tune in next month to know what's playing on my iPod and random bits of not-so-juicy news.

Lots of love going out to my lovelies and darlings, all of whom I miss terribly.

Sorry, I'm still MIA-ing as Josh so aptly puts it.

Will try to stop, I promise.
It's just hard to break a habit, you know?

Dearest beloved readers of this edging-on-coma-like blog (if any still exist out there...),

I know I've been MIA-ing and flaking out big time. Sorry. Err, I have excuses though. Not just one but multiple in fact, but it still doesn't make it any more acceptable. I know I've been out of it, out of touch, out of reach, out of pretty much everything really but I do that sometimes. I don't really know why, I just do. Next time I'll try to remember the social rules my mom has tried to instill in me since young - ie. common courtesy, maintaining correspondence, keeping in contact with people and generally not disappearing off the face of the planet. Heh...so far, I've done a rubbish job of pretty much all of it but hopefully an old dog CAN learn new tricks...(but I wouldn't bet any money on it, just to be safe).

So umm, what to talk about today? Excellent question.

...
...
...

For those who still haven't realized by now or didn't already know, here's a little head's up: I'm not an awfully interesting person, in fact I'm pretty damn dull. My life isn't one of a glamorous, happening, socially active university student. In fact, it's so far from it you could probably throw me under the "Uncool, Nerdy, Outcasts and General Loners" category and you'd probably never see me again. And no, I'm not exaggerating. And yes, I tell it as it is.

As of lately, the only new addition to my weekly routines would consist of power walking three times a week to get to my terminology class at the other end of campus, a lack of orgo chem formulas, maneuvering around slush, snow and ice cold water puddles in non water proof footware and spending 3 hours a week helping out at the hospital clinics.

Music I've been replaying constantly on my iPOD and I highly recommend:

Air Traffic's She Never Even Told Me Her Name & Charlotte. (They are new found British AWE-SOME-NESS)
The Kook's Ooh La. (If you haven't heard of them, you should go download Naive, She Moves In Her Way, See The World and you know what...just get whatever you can get your hands on.)
The Veil's Calliope & Advice For Young Mothers To Be (These two are good but I haven't quite explored much of their work yet but it sounds promising...)
The Bravery is *heart heart heart*. Bad Sun is an adorable track. But yeah, just grab anything you can from them.
Paramore is generally good stuff in my opinion. I have taken an extreme liking to Misery Business & Crushcrushcrush.
Operator Please! is so freshly funky that it makes me feel old. Strange lyrics but it's addictive. Personal recommendations: Get What You Want & Two For My Seconds. But it's all been pretty pleasing to the ear cavities.

I've had this thing with singers named Kate lately...it's a really funny coincidence actually. See, I don't usually quite fancy female artists. In all honesty there are few that I really, really, REALLY like. Most of the time, they're just flaky one-song infatuations that come and go with mood swings and hormone levels. Anyways, here are the list of Kates I recommend you check out:
Kate Voegele, Kate Nash & Katie Herzig. (Yes I know the last one isn't Kate exactly but close enough, right?)

For a trip down memory lane, I've been digging up Tracy Chapman tracks. I know I just stated how I'm not usually a "permanent" fan of female singers but Tracy Chapman is one of the few rare exceptions. I am insanely in love with her music, like so in love it's probably bordering on a little obsessive. The woman is genius, her songs are simple, clean cut and yet somehow her voice manages to resonate in your ears long after you're done with the track. I still remember the first time I heard her song "Fast Car", it was love at first soundwave. Personal favourites: Across The Line, The Promise, Change.

Another possibly remotely detail, there's this guy...

Now, just hold your horses. It's not even half as interesting as most of you are imagining. Yes, pull the damn hand brakes on those frivolous imaginations of yours. Yes, you...and you and whoever else is present in that head of yours.

Basically, I volunteer at Princess Margaret Hospital (specializing in cancer patient care) once a week. A majority of the people who volunteer at the hospital are either cancer patient survivors or university students interested in health care and want the exposure to the field. So ergo - the dude. So my first day on my new shift on Wednesdays this semester, I run into this guy who's from my biochemistry class that is relatively small in comparison to most classes at UofT, hence my recognition of his face and his of mine. So, obviously cordial greetings were exchanged in this somewhat "strained" attempt at being civil/pretending to be friendly with each other ie. "How's it going?", "The weather's ridiculous out there, eh?", so on and so forth.

Not that
bad right? I mean it's supposed to be part and parcel of human interaction, I should be used to it by now? So why do I get all weirded out when it happens? So anyways back to the point, this "interaction" has continued for about a month now and here's the rich part...

I DON'T even know the guy's name.

I don't quite know who should be more embarrassed in this situation. Me or him?
Gosh, I always knew I was bitch who couldn't care less but this has totally reaffirmed that notion for me. Hah.

But in all fairness, I'm not all that sure that he knows mine either.

But if he does, oh I am in such deep shite.

Sometimes I wish my foot wasn't always stuck in my mouth in all time.

Just so I could say the things that need to be said.

To the people who really need to hear it from me.

Because I know they want to hear it, they need to hear it but I can't bring myself to say it.

It just doesn't come out.

OMGWTFBBQ

I'm free. Freedom, doesn't it just sound sooooo good rolling off your tongue like that.

I almost can't quite believe it despite the fact that it's actually happening right now.

I'm free...

Free to catch up on all that sleep I've been deprived of for almost 3 weeks.

Free to *quote* cook *unquote* actual substantial food (ie. food that requires more that 15 minutes of prep)

Free to just think about something other than academia or simple fill my head with fluff.

Free to roll around in slush puddles in the streets of Toronto for all I care.

(That is how free I feel right now...)

It's such an amazing feeling of release. Almost like one huge prolonged sigh and then when it finally does happen: after the building up of anticipation then the deep exhale and then just feeling the weariness and everything else that's been residing on your shoulders for "god-knows-how-long" just melting off your body. Feels rather like a butterfly emerging from a cocoon (not that I actually know how that feels since I'm neither an actual caterpillar nor Gregor in Kafka's Metamorphosis)

Right about now, I'd probably just give everyone huge sloppy kisses but physical separation is a bit of a problem in this sector.

Yeah. That is just HOW friggin' happy I am at this point :)

Now I am going to play Mmmbop and just prance around for a bit to work this euphoria off a little before I OD on it and go totally bonkers.

Why I'm telling any of you this, is not only unclear but also rather an embarrassing personal admission on my behalf. But we all have our vices, right? Mine just happens to be 3 perfectly pitched brothers singing a song about a made up word. Well at least it's them playing the acoustic version 10 years later, with deeper voices and better hair.

Errr...yeah, whatever. *diverts gaze.

I honestly could care less what you think of me at this moment.

=P

The Hanson brothers live are UN-FUCKING-BELIEVABLE. Period.

Oh, and I am so in love with Isaac Hanson right now it should be a sin. His guitar solos were so freaking irresistibly smoking hot that I was reduced to a shrill screaming 15 year old teeny bopper on the spot.

Zac with his new hair-do made him almost completely unrecognizable. He spoke to me and my friend personally as we were lining up in the freezing rain for almost an hour (I lost all feeling in my toes) and we didn't even know it. Quoting Cher with her famous catch phrase, *smackdie*. Yes, I know I'm an idiot. But in my defence, it was dark, it was freezing cold and it was raining. I blame it on a temporary neuron dysfunction. (I'm still pissed at myself, wtf).

Their playlist for the concert was amazing, a mix of some of their songs from Middle of Nowhere, Underneath, The Walk and even their old Christmas album. I even got to hear Mmmbop, A Minute Without You and If Only, now can you say OLD school? They opened with Great Divide, obviously which literally sent shivers down my spine. It is so amazing live, especially the opening sequence with the electric guitar (Isaac, le sigh..) But the new songs from their latest album were AMAZING live, probably even better than on the record itself. Now I wish I could carry them around in my pocket to sing for me everyday. Ohhh, and I got to hear Zac sing the lead for "Go" which was soooo beautiful that I thought I had died and gone to heaven. Some of my favourite songs were played: Crazy Beautiful, Lost Without Each Other, Penny & Me, Strong Enough To Break, Been There Before, Blue Sky, Running Man, Something Going Round, etc.

These people are BORN live performers, seriously. Their vocals were spot on, amazing energy and musicianship. Even their band, these two black guys: one on bass, the other on guitar and keyboards; was freaking amazing. The bass solo at the end of the concert was so cool, *jar drops to floor*. They managed to get the whole crowd singing along and jumping up and down, but then again a majority of the audience were females (who have probably been fans of the brothers since like 1997) or males dragged there by their girldfriends. *Tee-hee. It was a whole lot of, "Hanson, I LOVE YOUUUU" and shrill screaming. I participated a lot in the screaming bit of it and proud of it.

Will talk more about the details of the concert and the AMAZING amount of time I spent WAITING for Hanson to actually come on stage sometime later on post-finals. Pfffft, but it was all worth it...almost freezing my toes off, catching pneumonia. I'd totally do it all over again just to see them perform live again ;)

On a leaving note: HANSON RULES!!!
(Don't you dare say otherwise...*deathglare)

The birthday came.

And the birthday went.

Had a lovely pre-birthday weekend when Weng came down to Toronto especially to celebrate my birthday (and of course to stock up on good food) and he finally officially met the roomies. It's a little scary how well he and Roomie 2 hit it off, going on and on incomprehensibly about anime titles and seiyuus. Errr, but then again they do have a lot in common.

On the other hand, am now the proud owner of an awesome pair of big-ass headphones (with a bass amplified subwoofer) from Skullcandy. Orgasmic sound quality...
And all thanks to the beloved roomies who come up with the lamest divergence tactics ever. *Sweatdrops, but I still *heart* them to death.

Had delicious authentic Northern Indian food at this posh restaurant called The Host near Bloor St. on the birthday night. And it snowed and the roomie got high on snow ;)

No, did not get wasted because I'm a good girl that way despite being a tad bit bitchy every now and then. Hee...

All in all, it was a good birthday. So now I'm 19 finally and legal to buy booze.

What a milestone, right?

Pictures are unavailable at the moment because the photo-snapping roomie is cramming from Comm finals and going off her rocker a little. Will post some perhaps after finals are over, which is like in 2 to 3 weeks?

People, pray I don't flunk. I need to get good grades....

P/S. Lots of thanks and love to all those who wished me Happy Birthday. *Hugs and kisses. I miss you guys soooo damn much each individually.
